Abstract

The rapid advancement of smart security systems has increased the demand for reliable, tamper-resistant access control mechanisms. This paper presents SecureX, an enhanced RFID-based locking system that integrates Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity, real-time cloud monitoring and a spoof-detection mechanism to strengthen conventional access control. The proposed system uses an Arduino Uno microcontroller with an MFRC522 RFID reader, a relay-driven solenoid lock, a NodeMCU ESP8266 module and the Blynk IoT cloud platform. Unlike conventional RFID locks that authenticate a card solely by its unique identifier, SecureX continuously monitors the pattern of failed authentication attempts and flags cloned or unauthorised RFID signals as intrusion attempts. When repeated invalid attempts are detected, the system enters a lock mode, sounds a continuous buzzer alarm and dispatches real-time mobile and e-mail alerts through Blynk; the administrator can then remotely disable the lock mode using an MD5-hashed password entered from the Blynk mobile application. Communication between the Arduino Uno and the NodeMCU ESP8266 is implemented using simple pulse-based digital signalling. Testing under authorised-access, unauthorised-access and repeated-invalid-attempt scenarios confirmed reliable operation, with a system response time of under two seconds and stable WiFi-based alert delivery. The work is inspired by, and extends, the Blynk-integrated RFID lock framework reported at the 2023 IEEE ICCIT conference by incorporating an additional spoof-detection layer for improved security.
